Can SENCos or a designated Alternative Provision lead/teacher visit the Centre in advance of a referral?

Connect2Education encourage visits prior to referral, as we know a visit can often confirm whether we are a setting that is likely to meet the needs of a child or young person.  We would not advise parents and carers visit without a designated lead from their child or young person’s school or a local authority representative.

Quality Assurance visits are standard and schools carry these out termly as per their policy.

Does a child or young person need to have and Education & Health Care Plan to access Connect2Education?

No. It is not a requirement that a young person has an Education & Health Care Plan to access provision. However many of the young people we work with are often on the pathway to assessment for a plan or may be awaiting the outcome of a plan. As a specialist provision we are asked to contribute information to an educational assessment whilst a child or young person is with us. Connect2Education staff work with local authority advisors and Special  Educational Need & Disability Coordinators in schools or academies to ensure provision and planning for each child or young person is reviewed regularly.
